Everyday I make sure I am learning something new that helps me take my professional and personal growth to the next level, and I wanted to share some of my learnings in this post.
- Be honest with yourself and ask the right questions
Let’s be honest, it’s easy to get in the habit of lying to ourselves. We may hate our job, but we keep telling ourselves it is going to be ok. We sugarcoat the obvious and that can only lead to dissatisfaction in our work, and ultimately our lives. We (albeit often subconsciously) surround ourselves with negativity, and over time we feel powerless and stop believing in ourselves. Some of us might be living a different reality, where we are doing well with our business and life but feel ‘stuck’ and can’t seem to get to the next level. I have been in both of those situations and I knew there had to be more to life.
To move to a direction that felt right for me and which gave me a sense of “levelling up” I had to start by being honest with myself and ask some of these questions:
How do I want my life and business to be in the next 2 years/5 years/10 years?
What are my financial goals at the end of those years?
If I can do just one thing TODAY that will instantly improve the quality of my life and business, what will that be?
It’s worth remembering that sometimes taking the time out for a simple job such as cleaning your room or office space can help you get the clarity you need, instantly improving your state of being. Small little things done right over a period can do wonders! Be willing to challenge yourself when answering those questions.
- Commit to learning
Learning is essential for growth. I love this quote from Brian Herbert :
“The capacity to learn is a gift; The ability to learn is a skill; The willingness to learn is a choice.”
So, there needs to be that willingness, almost a need to learn more. In this respect I am always looking for new things to learn that can help “level up” my business. One of the biggest obstacles to growth is the thought – “I know it all”. Get rid of this mindset right now! There will always be someone out there who will know more than you. Commit to taking a class that will help you learn a new skill that aligns with your short and long-term goals for life, work, business etc. There are loads of online courses on the internet. I also have a course where I teach ambitious entrepreneurs to take their game to the next level and earn passive income http://bit.ly/passionpassive
- Surround yourself with the doers
One of the best ways to level up as an entrepreneur and as an individual is to be with those who are already on the “next level” and focused on growing even further. Identify people in your network who meet this criteria. Connect with these individuals and learn from them.
My wedding planning business grew after I connected with my first business coach. She encourages me to objectively analyse my business, what I wanted to achieve and who I wanted to work with. With these learnings, and a willingness to take action I saw great results! Over the years I have been fortunate to meet many other inspirational entrepreneurs and connect with them in ways that are conducive to development, such as private retreat events.
I definitely encourage you to find relevant networking groups that can help you take your personal and professional life to the next level. I have a Facebook group with like-minded ambitious entrepreneurs that you may be interested to join for free! http://bit.ly/fab5percent
- Start reading a book
I LOVE a book. Do not underestimate the power of picking up and reading an actual paper, old school book. There is something therapeutic and cathartic about this process. A book is an amazing tool to increase your reservoir of knowledge, and remove you from your day to day madness for a few minutes! Here is a list of books that has really helped me:
Now all you must do is ACT! You will not level up if you do not act on the knowledge that you gain. Simple. It all comes down to getting shit done!
